Comedians I like.
I wish I could blog more. Actually, I CAN blog more. For some reason I choose not to. I mean that is what it comes down to, isn’t it?
Anyway, I really like comedy. For some reason around 2006 after seeing Zach Galifianakis on Comedy Central Presents, I really got into comedy.
Here’s some comedians I’ve been into lately:
Anthony Jeselnik
Normally I’m immediately uninterested in any sort of “shock comedy” or anything where the humor isn’t in what’s being said, but just the fact that someone would say something so offensive. It just doesn’t do anything for me, and I think it’s the cheapest way of getting a laugh. Anyone can say some offensive shit. Hey, something something and there was a dead baby and blahblah racism. Wow. Big deal. Anyway, when I stumbled across Anthony Jeselnik’s new album “Shakespeare” I was a little skeptical at first. However, while he is “shocking” to say the least, each one of his jokes has this awesome, seemingly normal set up and then takes the smartest, most clever mean turn at the end. He plays a character that is sort of this cool, collected asshole. I love it. Get his new album on iTunes.
Reggie Watts
A Reggie Watts performance is probably the closest I’ve seen anyone make standup comedy into “art”. He combines out-of-nowhere non-sequiturs in different accents, music made by beat boxing into a loop pedal, references to social situations everyone is familiar with but rarely discuss, and a ton of other stuff I’ve never really seen anyone do before. Definitely a very original comedian.
Kyle Kinane
I think I like this guy because he basically takes all the where-is-my-life-going hang-ups I have and makes me laugh about them.
Morgan Murphy
I think I feel the same way about Morgan as I do about Kyle Kinane. I just love jokes about hating life! ha.
Mike O’Connell
Also, I like people who are insane.
